FAQ's about 91.9 FM WITT Community Radio

1.  Who is involved in WITT?
WITT is made up of volunteers and a volunteer Board of Directors dedicated to bringing community Radio to Central Indiana.  There are currently three board members (Jim Walsh, Stuart Lowry and Patricia Miller).  Jim Walsh and Stuart Lowry have a long history in radio and through them was sparked the original vision of a community radio station.

Since then, the effort has expanded to include individuals involved in the local music industry, volunteer coordinators, graphic designers, public relations professionals, musicians and others that have identified a personal talent to contribute to community radio.

YOU can be involved in WITT!  Please e-mail volunteers@919witt.org and request to volunteer!  You will be sent a volunteer form and asked to identify in what capacity you would like to help.  At that point you will be invited to WITT meetings, and added to the outreach e-mail list.

2.  When is WITT going to launch on-air?
WITT is going to air in 2008, but only with your help!

Please consider making a donation to 91.9 WITT FM above. For $91.90 you can become a Frequency Friend, or you or your business can help underwrite a program.

You may also help WITT get on air by volunteering for outreach and fundraising campaigns and events.  Please e-mail volunteers@919.org and let us know that you would like to help in this way!

3.  What is WITT going to play?
WITT is going to play an adventurous mix of music, live performing arts broadcasts, radio theatre, storytelling, local issues coverage, Pacifica Radio broadcasts, and other programs that serve Central Indiana.

Programs will be written and broadcasted by community members and volunteers, and selected and evaluated by the WITT program committee.  The purpose of the WITT program committee is to ensure program diversity, appropriate content for all ages, and to evaluate the success and popularity of programs.

4.  What is the difference between Community Radio and Public Radio?
Community Radio is more localized and represents the diverse interests and concerns of the community where it is located.  It is run entirely by volunteers, and provides unparalleled access to the studio via diverse programming.  WITT will also feature an adventurous mix of music, children’s and teen’s programming, which distinguishes it from any other radio station in Central Indiana.

5.  I am a musician and would like you to play some of my stuff.  Can I send you some music?

Thank you for your interest in having your music aired on 91.9 WITT FM!  Please send us your CD with a bio and description of the genre(s) that your music is a part of.

Please send these items to:

6.  I am in a band and would like to play at a WITT event.  How do I get involved?

We are thrilled to work with local Indianapolis musicians and bands that want to help WITT Community Radio through their ability to participate in shows and outreach events.

We will add you to our list of bands to contact for future WITT sponsored events, but we would also like to explore with you the possibility of hosting a WITT benefit yourself!

We will support you by creating the press release, and we will design and print flyers for the event, if you secure the band line-up, venue and time, and promote the show through the materials we provide you.  We will assist you with promotion, of course!

WITT asks that we get a portion of the proceeds, but in return we will also work with you to record the show to be broadcasted on air!

Please contact volunteers@919witt.org if you are interested in this model!

7.  I am interested in volunteering.  How can I get involved?

91.9 WITT FM is going to need lots of help from volunteers now and in the future!  WITT is a volunteer-driven effort, and only with the gifts and talents of community members can we make the station a success.

For the time being, WITT primarily needs support in the following areas:  fundraising, promotion, web development, engineering/tech/equipment, and community outreach/networking, though we are certainly interested in the gifts that you have that may fall outside of these areas.  As WITT becomes closer to ON-AIR, there will be more areas of volunteering available, such as on-air announcing, programming, news, community news gathering, public affairs, library etc.

We ask all volunteers to fill out a Volunteer Intake Form, to give us an idea of where your interests lie.  Please provide us with your e-mail address, and I will send it to you.  Once you fill it out, you can e-mail it back to volunteers@919witt.org.  Your information will not be shared or distributed to any other groups or lists.

Thank you!  We are excited to work with you!

8.  I am interested in hosting a radio show when WITT airs.  What is the process for creating a program?

Thank you for your interest!  WITT is going to need lots of volunteers and community support in programming once we are closer to ON-AIR.

This information needs to be decided upon and determined before creating a response.

9.  Where is WITT located?

WITT’s transmitter is located in Zionsville, though the radio station will cover Indianapolis and a good portion of central Indiana.

WITT is still looking for studio space, preferably in the near north side of Indianapolis.  If you have any leads to donated/affordable space, please contact jwalsh@919witt.org
